WWF, the global conservation organization that has been working in China for 27 years, is looking for a highly skilled professional to be a Yangtze Programme Communication Manager for the Conservation Operations in WWF China Programme Office to be based in Beijing.
This position will report to the Director of Conservation Operations and cooperate with communications departments.
Yangtze Programme Communication Manager
Major Function:
Responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of the communications strategy for the Yangtze Basin Programme, together with thematic and fields personnel and in collaboration with Communication department.
Responsible for ensuring the effective contribution of the Yangtze Basin Programme communications outcomes towards the overall WWF China communications and marketing implementation.
Responsible for ensuring effective communications engagement and collaboration between Yangtze Programme field offices and with the rest of WWF CPO, and Yangtze Programme with Global Thematic Programmes and WWF Network.
Responsible for pulling together all elements of projects within the Yangtze Ecoregion Programme into one overarching conservation vision, profile and brand.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Leads the developing, planning, coordination and implementation of Yangtze Programme level related communications strategy, activities, ensuring synergy with WWF CPO communications and marketing programme of work.
Supports effective coordination (working closely with Communications Department) in communications across field offices of the Yangtze Programme, and maximizes communications opportunities for WWF Network.
Lead the collection, analysis, coordination, production and dissemination of communication documentations for the Yangtze Programme to promote and profile the programme within WWF CPO, to rest of WWF network and with external audiences, including:
Monthly Yangtze Programme updates
Yangtze Programme contributions to the WWF China News letter
Yangtze Programme website contribution to WWF China website
Yangtze Programme profiles, Q and As, issue papers, achievement highlights and briefs
Yangtze Programme information for WWF CONNECT eg Ecoregion Updates
And other documents as appropriate
Receives and responds to communication information requests on the Yangtze Programme, and, where needed, arranges for appropriate support from the Yangtze Teams and WWF CPO to meet requests.
Contributes press releases, stories, and other press materials on Yangtze Programme to Communications Department for media opportunities.
Coordinates significant visits to Yangtze Programme field sites, in cooperation with departments of communications and marketing , as well as field offices.
Support the development of project proposals, and programme promotion opportunities (media tours, events etc) in collaboration with Communications Department, thematic and field offices to increase financing and awareness for the Yangtze Programme
Work with the Communication Department in the management of information relating to Yangtze Programme, such as collection and filing of video, slides, photos, etc.
Support the communications department in the daily sorting of Yangtze Programme related news and share with members of the Yangtze Programme, WWF CPO and the WWF Network.
Qualifications Required
Background on media or public relations;
At least five years experience in media or PR related work;
Basic knowledge on environmental science and/or conservation biology;
Proactive, innovative and output-oriented personality with good communication skills;
Excellent English and Chinese in writing, speaking and reading;
Adequate interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team with other staff in achieving common goals and ability to work hard and meet deadlines;
Willingness to update professional knowledge and skills.
