Job Description for AEP coordinator, International Fund for Animal Welfare
Job Location: Simao and Xishuangbanna, Yunnan
Report to: China Program Manager, IFAW
Develop, manage, implement and evaluate long and short-term AEP projects in Yunnan consistent with IFAW’s mission and goals; lead day to day responsibility for project planning and co-ordination, advising on funding of related grant proposals, project budgeting, team development, project liaison internally and externally.
Work in a participatory manner to motivate and fully utilize IFAW AEP project staff, consultants and other resources in the development and implementation of IFAW’s work on program initiatives in Yunnan.
Motivate and lead a multidisciplinary team of consultants assuring that the team, as a whole, is staffed with the necessary talent, skills and expertise to effectively and responsibly achieve program objectives in the short and longer term.
Develop protocols for campaign initiatives particular to AEP project but consistent with IFAW world-wide protocols.
Work closely with China Program Manager and IFAW AEP project staff in the ongoing identification of opportunities for furthering the aims of the programs and projects.
Maintain close contact with other program staff, public affairs and other relevant staff and consultants so that they have timely and accurate information on program/project progress in Yunnan.
Produce written reports on program/project progress for external and internal use.
Provide assessment and oversight for program/project implementation and goal attainment
Act as link between IFAW China office and the AEP project office
Meet regularly with IFAW China staff and local authorities to brief them on program issues
Liaise with others in IFAW to develop, prepare and assist with the preparation of reports, PR materials, popular articles, web site materials, educational materials
Disseminate information to other IFAW staff/departments on China program issues, as well as the media, where appropriate. Contribute to monthly updates for internal and external circulation
Prepare and manage relevant project budgets
Undertake other duties and special projects for IFAW as assigned

在符合IFAW使命及目标的前提下,开展亚洲象保护项目,并对其进行管理以及长、短期的评估。负责日常的项目规划和协调,同时就相关的基金拨款计划、项目预算、团队发展及内外部协调等提出建议。
在符合IFAW全球规章制度的基础上,参与制定并实施针对亚洲象保护项目的项目规范。
在项目的发展和实施过程中,主动参与并充分调动和利用项目工作人员、专家顾问以及其他资源。
调动并带领由不同领域专家构成的项目顾问小组,同时确保该顾问小组具备相应的专业技术和能力,以便有效合理地实现项目的长、短期目标。
与中国项目主任及项目工作人员密切合作,及时发现项目进行中出现的机遇,以使项目能够深入发展。
与项目人员、公共事务部和其他相关工作人员,以及顾问保持紧密联系,使其能够及时并准确地掌握云南亚洲象保护项目/计划取得的进展。
撰写供内外部使用的项目进展情况的书面报告。
对项目/计划的实施,以及目标的达成情况进行评估和监督。
充当IFAW中国办公室和亚洲象保护项目办公室间联系人。
同IFAW中国办公室及当地的相关主管部门定期会面,就项目情况进行简明汇报。
在与项目相关的报告、公关素材、热门文章、网站及教育材料的开发与准备上与IFAW其他工作人员合作并提供帮助。
向IFAW其他工作人员/部门传播有关中国项目情况的信息,适当也可向媒体公布。参与每月用于内外部交流的信息更新。
准备并管理相关项目预算。
承担IFAW分配的其他职责和指定计划。

PURPOSE OF JOB
The position exists to further IFAW’s stated mission and specific campaigns by influencing public and political opinion through the media. The position is to enable the publicizing in China of IFAW’s national and international contribution to animal welfare and conservation, bringing to the attention of the public the programs undertaken by the organization, thus mobilizing the power of public opinion. The position requires both proactive and reactive initiative, and requires a capacity to shape opinion.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Understand as fully as possible the issues surrounding IFAW campaigns. Proactively research issues surrounding current campaigns. Monitor the activities of opponents in the media and incorporate that information into IFAW’s media strategies. Use all relevant forms of technology to monitor events and to communicate with others.
2. Monitor, on a daily basis, important media resources in China and react immediately to unexpected events, relate relevant coverage to colleagues, draft press releases and proactively contact journalists, editors and producers to ensure IFAW is always first with appropriate comment and analysis.
3. Provide day-to-day response to enquiries from representatives of the media sourcing information and acting as an advocate, where appropriate, for the organization. Respond to claims made by opponents and challenge negative coverage.
4. Establish and nurture relationships with members of the media, presenting a positive image of IFAW. Promote IFAW spokespeople, ensuring the organization is called upon to comment where and when relevant issues are raised. Act as a contact between the media and IFAW spokespeople. Set up interviews for IFAW experts and key spokespeople with media outlets as needed and requested.
5. Contribute to the formulation of strategy ?C present guidance to campaigners as to which initiatives might be likely to attract media coverage. Garner coverage for those initiatives.Engage in long-term planning to ensure maximum impact at critical times.
6. Maintain an up-to-date database of Chinese media contacts and media distribution lists for IFAW’s key campaigns and issues.
7. Create regular Chinese media reports on IFAW coverage, campaign issues, etc. as requested by the Asia Regional Director and Communications Manager, program areas, departments, and HQ Global Media & Communications.
8. Maintain up-to-date files (electronic, database, and/or hardcopy as required) of Chinese press clippings and key campaign coverage.
9. Use the media as an immediate conduit between IFAW and its supporters ?C aid fund-raising by adopting a strategy of well-timed media initiatives highlighting IFAW’s work.
10. Work with IFAW’s web management team to ensure that IFAW’s activities in China and other related information is posted quickly and accurately to the IFAW public website, in support of IFAW programs.
11. Liaise with campaigners, giving advice where necessary to ensure operations are amenable to media interest.
12. Work with Media Asset Coordinator to move images quickly and effectively to media as needed, to promote IFAW’s campaigns and projects in China.
13. Ensure that Chinese media reports, and other related information and documentation are posted to the IFAW portal as needed or requested.
14. Assist with the production, promotion, and distribution of Video News Releases (VNRs) Audio News Releases (ANRs) and other media material as needed and requested to promote IFAW campaigns and issues to the Chinese media.
15. Undertake other duties consistent with the post when required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
1. Minimum three years experience working in a similar position or in a regional/ national media outlet.
2. Excellent writing and speaking abilities in both English and Chinese, preferably with journalistic training or experience.
3. A sound understanding of the Chinese media market and how the media operates.
4. Experience in maintaining electronic databases of media information ?C contacts and press clippings.
5. Commitment to animal welfare, enthusiasm in promoting IFAW’s values and an ability to act as an advocate for IFAW’s campaigns and mission.
6. An ability to digest complicated information and to then present it in a simplified form.
7. A willingness to embrace new technologies for the purposes of attaining evidence for campaigns or for acquiring and disseminating information.
8. Excellent organizational ability with attention to detail.
9. A willingness to work long hours and to travel at short notice. Professional demeanor and attire.
10. Able to work alone as well as with others in a team. Forthright, positive, personable and easy-going nature. Sense of humor.
