VIA Outreach CoordinatorVIA (formerly Volunteers in Asia), is an international non-profit organization committed to increasing understanding between the U.S. and Asia through purposeful, hands-on cross-cultural exchange. Our Asia Programs select, train, and place volunteers in Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Laos and Burma. Our Stanford Programs bring Asian college students to the U.S. on language, culture and service based programs. Since
1963, VIA has sent over 1,600 volunteers to 14 Asian nations and brought over 4,000 college students from Asia to the U.S. More information available online at www.viaprograms.orgs.VIA has 10 full-time U.S.-based staff and 3 Asia-based field coordinators, with 50+ volunteers in Asia and 250 participants from Asia annually. The Outreach Coordinator plays a central role in developing and implementing VIA's overall public relations strategy, including recruitment of participants and building VIA's alumni network. VIA has offices at Stanford University and in San Francisco. The Outreach Coordinator would split time between these offices. Areas of ResponsibilityRecruitment: Develop and lead VIA's Program Directors in the implementation of VIA's U.S. recruitment and marketing strategy. This will include,
but not be limited to, attending Bay Area campus career fairs, presenting informational meetings, maintaining and developing nationwide college campus contacts, responding to email and telephone inquiries, and increasing awareness of VIA's programs with identified target audiences. (35%) Program Support: Support VIA's Program Directors in the overall administration of the Asia volunteer programs, including managing the application process, assisting in training and acting as a liaison between program and administrative staff. (15%) Publications: Produce VIA's "VIAlogue" newsletter (twice a year) and Annual Report. Create and update recruitment and promotional materials. Support VIA's Development Director in the development of fundraising and events materials. (20%) Website: Manage overall design and content of VIA's website and
provide staff with technical assistance as needed. Act as a liaison between staff and internet service provider. (10%) Fundraising Support: Assist VIA's Development Director in the planning and execution of organizational events and fundraising activities. (10%) General: Provide leadership and support in VIA's overall public relations strategy. Be a key member in both Administrative and Asia Programs teams. Attend staff and board meetings and participate in VIA's consensus decision-making process. (10%) QualificationsRequired:1) Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking 2) Experience with recruitment and/or
public relations3) Basic computer knowledge and a desire to learn new applications4) Ability to work independently with limited supervision Preferred:1) VIA alumnus or international experience (Asia preferred, but not required)2) Superior computer skills: Mac environment, Microsoft Office, Filemaker Pro, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, Macromedia Dreamweaver and Fireworks, and HTML 3) Knowledge of Bay Area community resources and university campuses4) Ability to work with diverse members of the community5) Desire to work in a small, consensus-based working environment Compensation: - $33,000 plus annual increases and COLA- Full health, dental & vision for employee, spouse or domestic partner and dependents- 15 vacation days per
