The Interim Report of CMPP
(2004.06-2005.03)
Nothing can be more appalling than the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004. The tsunamis are merciless but people are merciful. This century disaster brought not only the warmth of the world but also the self-reflection of people. People came to realize the importance of the mangrove.
In the past eight months, we still directed our energies to the special conservation of China’s mangrove, and achieved a lot in this stage. By cooperating with branch establishments and GWMF, CMPP has supported and conducted seven local mangrove conservations including Green Hainan Association and Greensalon Association in Guangxi Province, also improved the publicity of CMPP and shared them with related NGOs. Meanwhile, we are active in pursuing the new ideas of the mangrove conservation in China.
In 2004, GGF‘s continuous approval of CMPP and the honor of 2004 Ford Motor Conservation and Environmental Funds prize show the work of CMPP has gained wide recognition again.
The orientation of CMPP
After four years’ efforts, CMPP has summed up a lot of experience and began to set new goals for the project. From the initial local project to the nationwide project now, the process itself is a kind of creating and developing. Now, with its professional advantage, rich experience, resource creating and unique ideas, CMPP hope to conduct the mangrove conservation of NGOs all over the country, so as to gradually create the atmosphere of mangrove conservation throughout the country and exchange experience with relevant associations from other countries. The efforts of Greenwild are an important part of them but not all.
CMPP now concentrates on the mangrove conservation and considers joining itself with community development. Of course, we will develop other projects like wetland conservation, animal welfare, and clean energy sources and so on.
Collaborative project of CMPP
CMPP collaborated with seven NGOs such as Greenwild association of Xiamen University, Environment Conservation Association of Jimei University, Wenlingyuan Volunteer Association in Quanzhou, Green Hainan Association, Greenguardian in Longyan, Greeneyes China Association and Greensalon Association in Guangxi through branch establishments and GWMF, and conducted their local mangrove conservation and has obtained good results. (For more details, please refer to the previous)
Resources of CMPP
Getting the cream of scientific research and NGO’s work, as well as considering the principle of practicability, popularity, sustainability, CMPP makes a great deal of cards, posters and the second set of publicity poster boards supported with interpretation of mangrove. They are delivered to the relevant associations all around the country shortly after they have been made, in the hope of being used effectively in time.
Activities of CMPP
1. Scientific Research
CMPP continue the scientific research in Dayu Island of Xiamen, observing and taking samples thus offer technological support for mangrove planting.
2. Investigation
With the continuous energy investigation, we successively found some new places for planting mangrove and watch them regularly. The collaborative projects of CMPP also found some relevant places for mangrove’s growth.
3. Propaganda
Various publicity campaigns have been designed by CMPP for various kinds of audience on campus, in community, preservation and other areas and they have obtained some good results.
4. Interpreters Training
CMPP has trained many interpreters all over the country by adopting the way of resource sharing, lecturing, and overall tracking of the process of collaborative projects. These interpreters are distributed in Hainan, Guangxi, Fujian and Zhejiang.
5. Community Development
CMPP began to introduce the idea of Community Development into projects, including all the subsidiary projects supported by us.
In this process, we were investigating some mangrove communities in Hainan, Guangxi, Fujian and Zhejiang and have gathered the relevant data on mangrove and the communities, laying a solid foundation of our work in these communities.
6. Bird watch program
CMPP has bought equipment for bird watch and started up the bird observation in mangrove aiming to have a good grip of the bird resource and their appetence in China mangrove ecosystem. Meanwhile we are carrying on relevant conservation.
7. Please pay attention to the chief events for more information
The management of CMPP
More and more volunteers joined in CMPP after a recruiting last year. We also rent an office and a storeroom and operate the relevant office regulation to make better use of resource and to make our activities orderly

We still maintain the communication with international association like MAP, IMMCP, sharing the experience and actual state of China mangrove conservation and learn something useful from other countries.
Cooperation with media
CMPP has kept close contact and cooperation with different media in the past few months, and propagated mangrove wetland and related conservation as much as possible to make the public have a further understanding of mangrove.
