International Corpsmember Position Announcement

     EarthCorps brings emerging community and environmental leaders from international environmental organizations to its Seattle-based service learning program. These international participants learn habitat restoration and leadership skills that will benefit their environmental organizations when they return to their home countries.

      Position Description: The EarthCorps International Corpsmember (ECI CM) is a training level, volunteer position in EarthCorps for non-US residents.  EarthCorps provides environmental restoration training to young adults ages 18-25, along with leadership training, community service and multicultural understanding of local and global issues.  The ECI CM position involves heavy, physical work outdoors in all weather conditions.  Duties may include leading other volunteers, environmental education, intensive backcountry camping with youth and attending educational trainings, orientations and retreats. The position reports to the Crew Leader who will serve as advisor to the crew.  EarthCorps crews will be comprised of five Corpsmembers and a Crew Leader.  


EarthCorps training is ideal for any organization that works with:
Community building
Reforestation
Ecotourism development
Youth outreach

EARTHCROPS CHARGES NO FEES  for its services and in fact supplies insurance, individual homestays, gear, and a monthly stipend to all international participants.  EarthCorps provides additional support in acquiring US J-1 Trainee visas.

CORPSMEMBER TERMS OF TRAINING:

STATUS:  Volunteer, temporary

PERIOD OF SERVICE:  mid June 2007-mid December 2007

STIPEND:  $240 / month

Fieldwork:

·    7:30 am – 5:00 pm, Tuesday through Saturday with every other Saturday off

·    2 multi-day program retreats outside of Seattle throughout program

·    Up to 6 camping work weeks in summer months

BENEFITS:

·    Travel Insurance premium paid for volunteer only.

·    $240 / month living allowance

·    Bus passes provided during term of service

·    1/3 of Airfare to and from Seattle, Washington, USA may be paid by EarthCorps up to $500.

·    Host family (room and board)  in Seattle

·    Boots, pant, T-shirt and rain gear provided  

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
·    Between 18-25 years old

·    Interest in environmental field work and intercultural experience

·    Willingness to work hard, including hard physical labor in all types of weather

·    Interest in working with youth and the community

·    Commitment to cooperation and teamwork with peers from around the world  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
·    2 years of practical experience or secondary education in the environmental field

·    Conversational English   

·    Written support from an organization working in the environmental field

·    No Criminal Record                  

we will, on a case-by-case basis, consider applicants who do not meet the minimum criteria (except in the case of language). This may be an individual who has extensive practical experience but limited academic preparation in the field. It may also be someone who has a strong academic background but not the full 2 years practical experience. Costs and Benefits: EarthCorps charges no fees to our international participants. We provide a monthly stipend, health insurance, gear, transportation and accommodations in the form of homestays (a room in a home with a local host family). The only expenses incurred by international participants and/or their sponsoring organizations are visa processing fees and travel to and from Seattle. Limited travel scholarships and subsidies which cover 30% of transportation costs up to $500 are made available to exceptional candidates. Participants are responsible to pay for all travel expenses, including US visa costs before arriving at the EarthCorps program. EarthCorps provides US visa support.

Qualified candidates should work with their organization to complete the International Partner Organization Form and Candidate Nomination form. We strongly recommend that applicants submit materials by email to avoid international mail delays. Additional application materials will be emailed to individual applicants once an organizational affiliation has been established. 去美国做三个月的环境志愿者~~~每月补助270美元,home stay(吃住免费),来回机票报销三分之一。
