During my study times, I have obtained my English undergraduate diploma major in English. Meanwhile, I got good score on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) last year, thus I will begin new study of Environment and Resource Protection Law Geography Planning and Human Geography in Hunan Normal University this November.[/li][li]Group Affiliation:
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park Administration[/li][li]Free-time activities:
drawing comics, playing the violin, reading and travelling[/li][li]Favourite Quote:
One should be as inclusive as the Ocean which is vast because it admits hundreds of rivers, and stand bolt upright - a precipice because one can be austere if he has no selfish desires. [/li][li]My Personal relation to the World Heritage Site:
I was born and now live in the city of Zhangjiajie where Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area is located. Both my mother and my father have always worked for the natural WHS which I represent. Having spent almost all my childhood in the WHS, I know all those landscapes and vegetations very well. I am enchanted by all those leaves, flowers, streams, canyons, mountains and even insects. After graduating from high school, I inherited the business of my parents and have serviced for my WHS for the last 7 years. I am interested in ecological protection and sustainable development of my WHS. From 2009 I began my study in knowledge about ecology and biodiversity. Recently, I focus on topics of low carbondevelopment of tourism industry as well as strengthening awareness of the local residents to participate in environmental protection.[/li][li]Important to safeguard my natural World Heritage Site:
More than 760 species of fauna and more than 3000 of flora inhabit Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area I represent, which makes it famous as a kingdom for animals and a paradise for plants, as well as with Heicongnao of rare virgin forest on the earth enrich its natural sources and scientific values, and it has the only typical representative of geomorphology as the geomorphology of quartz sandstone peak forest. According to all described and mentioned above, this fully explains the importance to safeguard my natural WHS.[/li][li]Specific problems and threats of my WHS:
Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area was included to UNESCO World Heritage list in Dec. 1992. The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is a major part of it and it is the first national forest park in china. It was listed as Global Geopark in Feb.2004. With tourism development and increasing numbers of tourists, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is facing contradictions between protection and development, a large number of human activities bring about great pressures to functions of ecosystem services, especially to endemic health growth of species. Activities of tourists effect reproduction and growth of plants and animals, causing fragmentation in local areas. For example, the unique plant as “Five-column Gynostemma” is close to rim of extinction mainly due to over-harvesting. Meanwhile, with the Global climate changes, there are several environmental changes to a great extent: compared to 20 years ago, the average temperature has increased by 2~3 C locally; the core scenic site of Golden whip stream, the stream water flow was conspicuous reduced which act as a crucial symbol of decline of biological diversity.[/li][li]Motivation for participating in the International Youth Forum 2010:
I ardently love natural and my WHS and I desire to contribute to development and protection of my WHS through my own efforts. Participating in this Forum isa very precious opportunity for me, before and during this forum I think I could learn a lot about conservation of WHS and its sustainable development as well as biodiversity.I could improve my ideas, my thoughts and my work by exchanging experiences and views with other participants with different cultural, religious etc backgrounds. I also hope to provide a new perspective to other participants by this chance. [/li][li]Message to the world concerning WHS and biodiversity:
The whole earth is a big family and biodiversity makes our earth colorful. Every species is just like a family member. With these members, there are various kinds of colors like green, red, yellow, purple etc which show mainly to us by WHS as backyard of the earth. But unfortunately, because of human activities, particularly, tourism development in WHS, the ecological footprint of humanity exceeds the biological capacity of WHS, which have caused WHS becoming more vulnerable. Endemic species are at risk of extinction. And the numbers of family, members of our earth, are reducing and our earth becomes in dismal. To protect WHS and to maintain biological diversity is a responsibility to everyone.[/li] |
