The World Water Rescue Foundation was conceived in February of 1999 by Philip Sauers with the mission of pursuing every possible way to preserve and protect the freshwater supply of this planet. The vision of the foundation was to launch a successful public awareness campaign with regard to the crucial importance of the availability of freshwater and ways to conserve the world's limited resources.
Having had previous experience with a United Nations International Year, the obvious step to Mr. Sauers, was to develop interest in an International Year devoted to water by the United Nations. After meetings in New York with H.E.Ambassador Rashid Alimov, Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the United Nations, a proposal was delivered to the Economic and Social Council to proclaim 2003 as the "International Year of Freshwater" and was unanimously adopted on December 20, 2000 by the General Assembly. To date, the has participated in many UN, NGO, and private events, developing a strong supporting team of volunteers and expert advisors to assist in carrying out the Foundation's mandate of public awareness.
The Foundation is delighted to announce that in the 58th session of the General Assembly, an initiative proposed by the President of the Republic of Tajikistan was accepted by the United Nations, and, the years 2005 to 2015 has been proclaimed the International Decade for Action, "Water for Life" .
This decade gives us ten more years to work together to assure the availability of the priceless gift of freshwater for the benefit of future generations on earth.
