Position: Wildlife Trade Education Researcher

Location: Beijing, China

Report to: Program Officer (wildlife trade)

Thisexternal contract position will assist the China office in reducingcommercial exploitation of wildlife through developing an InternetWildlife Resource Pack and providing trainings with IFAW China wildlifetrade program team to the targeted audience.

Main Responsibilities

1.    Collect information from available IFAW material and external resources.

2.    Analyze the collected information.

3.    Assess and analyze the training needs from the targeted audience.

4.   Assist in the development of the 4 modules in the resource pack(Species Identification, Market Monitoring Skills, Law &Enforcement, and Education).

5.    Assist in identifying training partners and establish collaborative relationship with the partners.

6.    Assist in design, implementation and assessment of the trainings to the targeted audience.

7.    Evaluate and improve the resource pack with the team through the trainings.

8.    Attend IFAW meetings, workshop, trainings and other events as requested.

Requirements

1.    bachelor degree or above on biology, animal science or education

2.    Good analytical skills with minimum 3 year experience in desk research and data analyzing required.

3.    Prior experience in educational material development and training design required.

4.    Support IFAW's animal welfare and conservation policies and philosophy.

5.    Good interpersonal skills. Good listener and observer, able to get necessary information from talking with people

6.    Fluency in both verbal and writing in Chinese required.

7.    Able to maintain confidentiality.

8.    Ability to work both in a team or independently;

9.    Able to work under pressure and willingness to travel.

Terms of Reference for Position

Online Campaign and Marketing Officer/Wildlife Trade

PURPOSE OF JOB

Theposition exists to further IFAW’s stated mission, specifically reducecommercial wildlife trade by influencing public and political opinionthrough the internet and social network marketing.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

1.   Understand the threats to wildlife from commercial trade andparticipate in the planning and implementation of IFAW’s campaign toreduce wildlife trade.

2.    Research and collectinformation from IFAW’s available materials, creating the publiceducation and outreach toolkit which will be an integral component tothe Resource Pack IFAW is compiling to combat online wildlife trade.

3.   Proactively monitor, on a daily basis, important external resources onthe internet and apply the most applicable online marketing approachesto IFAW’s wildlife trade campaign and adopt the effective approaches.

4.  Work with Wildlife Trade Program Officer to ensure that IFAW’sprogrammatic progress, investigative findings, research outputs,enforcement outcomes and IFAW opinions are effectively interpreted,produced and communicated through various online conduits and mobilizethe public action online.  

5.    Provide creative inputto the development of campaign strategies and messages to broaden thedissemination of animal welfare and conservation concept, bringing tothe attention of the public the crisis and solution undertaken by theorganization, thus mobilizing the power of public opinion.

6.   Contribute to the Wildlife Trade program; possibly act as a trainer todeliver training to local conservation groups and enforcement agencieson public education and outreach.

7.    Support theWildlife Trade Program Officer to plan, implement and promote eachtraining workshop, ensuring IFAW and its funding parties are properlybranded throughout the workshops.

8.    Establish andnurture partnerships with members of the online media, ensuring synergyamong and high profile for IFAW’s wildlife trade campaign on themultiple internet portals, social networks, and the public view.

9.   Proactively summarize, communicate and integrate good online publiceducation and outreach practices in a timely manner and continuouslyenrich the content of the Resource Pack.  

10.  Contribute to the formulation of strategy – present guidance to WildlifeTrade Program Officer as to which initiatives might be likely toattract internet coverage. Garner coverage for those initiatives. Engagein long-term planning to ensure maximum impact at critical times.

11.  Create regular Chinese media reports on IFAW campaign coverage, asrequested by the Asia Regional Director and Communications Manager, forupdates in program, departments, and HQ Global Media &Communications.

12.   Coordinate with designers, producersand wildlife trade team members and maintain up-to-date files(electronic, database, and/or hardcopy as required) of the DRRP to makesure that IFAW and its funder are properly recognized and reported.

13.  Use internet as an immediate conduit between IFAW and its supporters –assist fund-raising by adopting a strategy of well-timed onlinemarketing initiatives highlighting IFAW’s work.

14.   Workwith IFAW’s web management team to ensure that IFAW’s activities inChina and other related information is posted quickly and accurately tothe IFAW public website, in support of IFAW programs.

15.  Assist with the production, promotion, and distribution of Video NewsReleases (VNRs) Audio News Releases (ANRs) and other media material asneeded and requested to promote IFAW campaigns and issues to the Chinesemedia.

16.   Undertake other duties consistent with the post when required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

1.    Compassionate about wildlife conservation and animal welfare and three years of work experience in an NGO preferred

2.    Superb writing abilities in Chinese, preferably with proficient English communication skills.

3.   A sound understanding of the Chinese internet market interests, values,styles and how new media and social networks correspond to the othermedia forms.
4.    Experience in maintaining electronic databases of media information – contacts and press clippings.

5.    Loyal and enthusiastic in promoting IFAW’s values and an ability to act as an advocate for IFAW’s mission and campaigns.

6.   An ability to digest complicated information and to then present it in asimplified form. And the ability to communicate with compassion andlogic at the same time.

7.    A willingness to embrace newtechnologies for the purposes of attaining evidence for campaigns orfor acquiring and disseminating information.

8.    Excellent organizational ability with attention to detail.

9.    A willingness to work long hours and to travel at short notice. Professional demeanor and attire.

10.  Able to work alone as well as with others in a team. Forthright,positive, personable and easy-going nature. Sense of humor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS职位要求

1.    关心野生动物保护及动物福利,有3年NGO工作经验者优先。

2.    高超的中文写作能力,具有熟练的英语沟通技能优先。
