WWF, the global conservation organization that has been working in China for 27 years, is looking for a highly skilled professional to be a Trade & Investment Programme Officer, within the Scientific Development and International Policy team of WWF China Programme Office to be based in Beijing.
This position will report to the Scientific Development and International Policy Programme Director.


Trade & Investment Programme Officer
JOB PURPOSE:
The officer will be a focal point in China for and supported by the Trade and Investment Programme (TIP) within the global network of WWF. The officer will be responsible for developing CPO’s strategies and polices dealing with trade and investment issues of special relevance for China. Furthermore, the position holder has to keep close contacts with national and international government agencies, research institutions, NGOs as well as international colleagues within WWF global network.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To be a focal point in China for TIP and fulfill the objectives and tasks developed jointly by the TIP and CPO team.
To engage key government agencies to explore a sustainable approach for trade and investment in China and abroad.
Promote and integrate advocacy work on trade, investment and policy issues in China in coordination with WWF CPO Conservation Strategy team.
Liaise with key WWF offices to keep abreast of conservation issues linked to China and represent their issues in WWF China conservation strategy team for activities and strategies in China and global / regional institutions, as necessary
Effectively manage third-party research contracts granted to local research partners by the Policy Programme.
Prepare required policy, technical and briefing papers for WWF China and network.
Explore possibilities of future cooperation with national authorities, academic institution, GAAs (government & aid agency), international organizations, business and other stakeholders, and establish a network of existing and potential partners in China.
Ensure the preparation and timely submission to the donors of annual work plans and budgets as well as technical and financial reports according to agreed network standards
Follow up with particular development proposals in WWF China and with rest of WWF network, as necessary; provide supports and review project proposals, TORs and contracts for fund raising and interventions in China.
Work with WWF China and network communications staff by collecting information and stories/lessons to ensure key issues, programme and conservation achievements are promoted in the WWF network and to internal audiences/media.
Prepare an analysis on future work required beyond 2007 three months after commencement.
Fulfill other related tasks required by the supervisor and WWF CPO.
QUALIFICATIONS
Five and more years of working experience in the fields of trade and investment, preferably focusing on policy-making, policy research or policy influencing related to economics, trade, foreign direct investment (FDI), international business, international relations or sustainable development.
Master degree or relevant education background in economics, trade, international business, environment science, conservation, development, etc.
Good knowledge about trade, investment, environment and sustainable development issues and deep understanding of politics within China and how it relates to other regions in the world, for example the impacts of Chinese outwards FDI is having on other parts of the world.
Strong management and communication skills
Good ability to speak, read and write in English
Good ability to speak, read and write in Chinese
Strong coordination and team work experience
Dynamic, creative and outgoing personality and commitment to nature conservation.
Good computer skills (MS Office, Email, Internet)
