JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE (ENGLISH):  Digital Producer - Short Term Contractor for 6 months
DEPARTMENT:  Program
REPORTS TO:  Communications Resource Unit (CRU) Manager
LOCATION:  Beijing
POSITION TYPE:  Short Term Contractor (6 months)

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Digital Producer is responsible for assisting the CRU Manager and NPI Management in developing and implementing digital technology and media solutions that will both strengthen and improve long-term communications infrastructure (e.g. supporter database, digital metrics analysis, website optimization, e-newsletter operations and visuals library) as well as support ongoing campaign-related communications work through graphic design, video and innovative digital tools.
Over the course of the six-month contract, 50% of the Digital Producer’s time will be allocated to CRU work and 50% to NPI work. The CRU Manager and NPI Management will coordinate to ensure that the Digital Producer’s tasks be assigned and scheduled in order to implement this overall time allocation.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.E-Newsletter Operations : Work with the CRU team to standardize and improve the use of the GPEA e-newsletter management system  in order to reduce existing e-newsletter deliverability problems and restore healthy list-building, subscriber retention, and supporter engagement metrics by the 2nd half of 2013.  Create and test e-newsletter mailings based on Chinese-language content, images and links provided by NPI staff.   Liaise with Greenpeace Global IT Support, GPEA colleagues, and Greenpeace colleagues in other NROs to develop solutions to technical issues as they arise and share solutions and learnings with the wider Greenpeace digital and technical community.
2.Supporter Database: In consultation with NPI management, assist the Data Analyst in identifying, categorizing, re-engaging and where necessary removing subscribers from our e-newsletter, mobile and social media channels. Help develop and implement centralized database to contain supporter information across channels through better integration of existing systems  as well as investigating and leveraging new 3rd party data management tools .
3.Website Development & Optimization: Coordinate with NPI unit, Data Analyst, Digital Developer, and external consultants to produce new and effective designs, functions and content for campaign projects as well as long-term website pages that are optimized for improving KPIs through systematic testing procedures. Liaise with Greenpeace Global IT Support, GPEA colleagues, and Greenpeace colleagues in other NROs to develop solutions to technical issues as they arise and share solutions and learnings with the wider Greenpeace digital and technical community.
4.Digital Metrics Analysis: Support Data Analyst, Digital Developer, and NPI colleagues in the preparation, production and analysis of digital metrics  generated during campaign pushes as well as through testing of innovations on the website, social media, mobile and other digital channels.
5.Visuals Library Configuration and Optimization: In coordination with the Visuals Librarian, Photo Producer  and Video Producer, develop and implement plan to configure and maintain Beijing-based visuals library by (1) installing hardware, software and accessories to ensure adequate storage capacity, redundancy and security; (2) centralizing visual products from all four GPEA offices in the visuals library database; and (3) making GPEA visuals products available for searching, browsing, viewing and downloading to staff in all four GPEA offices with appropriate access permissions.
6.GPEA offices Hardware and Software for Visuals:  In order to reduce system failures resulting in loss of or damage to GPEA visual assets , provide advice and recommendations to GPEA IT for purchasing and installing reliable hosting hardware and software for storing, organizing and transferring video, image, and other multimedia produced in GPEA Hong Kong, Taipei and Seoul offices.
7.Skillshare and Knowledge Transfer: Participate in trainings to GPEA colleagues on best practices for use of digital and analytical tools in communications and campaign work, focusing on web design & analytics, e-newsletter operations, and optimization methods.  Provide focused training and supervision for relevant CRU and NPI staff to ensure that all knowledge and skills accrued and applied in the execution of these responsibilities are maintained and continued after the termination of the contract period.
8.NPI Design and Multimedia Support: Working in coordination with NPI management, Comms Leads and Comms Contacts, assist in the development of visual and design products for use in campaign communications output.
9.Perform other duties as assigned by the line manager.

REQUIRED QUALITIES AND SKILLS:
1.Demonstrated ability to achieve the above major responsibilities with at least 2 years of experience in related fields;
2.Strong strategic, research, technical, media production, and analytical abilities;
3.Demonstrated ability to manage projects and project members to deliver objectives on time;
4.Fluency in written and spoken English and the local language of the region where the position is based;
5.Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
6.Willingness to learn new skills, technologies and information as organizational objectives require.
7.Commitment to, and demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team;
8.Ability to work unsupervised, in a rapidly changing environment;
9.Ability to operate and lead under pressure and in physically or mentally challenging situations;
10.Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and to meet tight deadlines, including a flexible mindset regarding working hours;
11.Commitment to the mission, principles and values of Greenpeace;
12.Bachelor’s Degree or above;
13.Computer literacy.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
1.Knowledge of the overall goals and intent of Greenpeace activities to support environmental protection principles.
2.Knowledge and ability to develop new and creative approaches and advance communication goals and objectives to help win campaigns.
3.International mindset and/or exposure to international work environment desirable.
4.Knowledge of communication techniques, strategies and practices. Specialist communications knowledge to help place the campaign on the local, national and international stage.
5.Organizational, administrative and budget management: to plan, organize and coordinate program activities; to address constant and varied demands on the position; to prepare, monitor and control expenditures and budget.

DECISION MAKING REQUIREMENTS:
The position works under the direction of the CRU Manager, and assumes responsibility for leading e-newsletter operations optimization work, while providing regular and close support to the Data Analyst and Digital Developer for supporter database, web development, and metrics analysis work; similarly, the position works closely in coordination with the Senior Visual Producer, Visuals Librarian and Photo Producer for visuals library-related work. The position assists the Manager in planning, development and implementation of strategies, plans, and procedures related to their tasks. Judgment is exercised in leading and managing a defined project and/or area of communications. Decisions made by the position significantly impact the success of the defined project and/or area of communications. Judgment and initiative are required in leading communications activities, in consultation with the Manager. Discretion is exercised in handling confidential and sensitive information.

SUPERVISORY AND FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The position may exercise supervisory responsibility to 1 position if required by the manager.
The position provides direction and guidance to external consultants and temporary staff, as required.
The position prepares, monitors and controls CRU-related program expenses and budget.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position works in a standard office environment, and is required to travel to other Greenpeace offices, campaign locations or locations where environmental problems require the presence of Greenpeace representatives.
The position may be required to work under pressure and in physically or mentally challenging situations.
Be on call after hours and on weekends as requested.
