The Tropical Forest Trust (TFT), a UK-based non-governmental organization, is seeking a Project Officer for its China office Tropical Timber Action Plan (TTAP) programme.
The Project Officer will assist the TTAP Regional Coordinator in: liaising with interested companies in China;
1. Developing market preference studies and supply chain analyses; implementing factory and forest assessments;
2. Managing a portfolio of factories implementing Chain of Custody (CoC) procedures, conducting wood control system (CoC&WoC) monitoring including; Technical support and guidance, raw material auditing, CoC development and implementation, and providing support towards the development of new supply chains.
3. Developing practical solutions and action plans;
4. Training and monitoring Chinese counterparts during action plan implementation; and reporting to TTAP members.
5. Confidence and good communication
This post will be based in Beijing, China, with significant travel within China expected.
The ideal candidate will be degree educated with a minimum of 5 years experience in the Chinese wood products industry, including knowledge and experience in legality verification and Chain of Custody systems.
An understanding of current issues relating to legality within the timber trade and policy framework, for example the EU Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) Action Plan initiative, is highly preferred.
