  We are hiring two campaign managers who will lead our committed campaign teams to engage in the main critical issues at stake in the Chinese and international environmental agenda – protecting the ancient forests and stopping water pollution.

  You will:
  -meet the committed campaigners all over the world, meet new cultures, collaborate and contribute to the global environmental campaign;
  -take to lead to build and manage a strong China campaign team of 5 to 8 campaigners to tackle such an important environmental issue;
  -direct and develop the strategies and plans to achieve positive changes;
  -act as the spokesperson for Greenpeace China when dealing with other Greenpeace offices, the media, other NGOs and government officials;
  -manage a campaign budget and make best use of donors’ resources for the most efficient environmental work.

  JOB DESCRIPTION
  POSITION TITLE (ENGLISH): Campaign Manager – Toxics
  POSITION TITLE (CHINESE): 污染防治项目经理
  LOCATION: Beijing

  PURPOSE OF POSITION:
  To direct and oversee the planning, development and implementation of Greenpeace's Toxics campaign in China. The Campaign Manager will develop campaign policies and strategies in consultation with Greenpeace China's (GPC) Campaign Director.

  MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1.Directs and oversees the planning, development and implementation of a specialized campaign area. Coordinates the development of objectives, strategies and program activities in order to achieve well integrated campaign work.
  2.Provides team leadership. Manages, motivates, and facilitates the work of the team members. Inspires and encourages team members to be innovative in all aspects of their work. Determines priorities, assigns responsibilities, and supervises staff. Identifies staff training needs.
  3.Provides expert advice to GPC's Campaign Director on all Toxics campaign issues and plans.
  4.Acts as a campaign spokesperson in dealings with other national offices, Greenpeace International and the media. Exchanges information and maintains contact with other NGOs and government officials.
  5.Works with the Toxics team to: organize public events (e.g. conferences, rallies, protests, demonstrations and actions), prepare written materials, communicate with government officials and industry representatives. Makes presentations and responds to public speaking requests.
  6.Overall responsibility for the budget allocation within the Toxics team and ensures that all expenditure is kept within the agreed budget. Ensures financial and administrative procedures are followed by the team.
  7.Undertakes other duties as assigned by the Campaign Director.

  6.Marketing and Negotiating Skills: to advance the goals and objectives of Toxics campaign program; work cooperatively with diverse coalition partners to advance campaign goals.
  7.Computer and Technical Skills: to utilize word processing and telecommunications capabilities; to develop written materials on Toxics campaign issues and strategies.
  8.Public Relations Skills: to function effectively within a highly charged atmosphere, under public scrutiny; and to present Greenpeace activities in a positive light to different audiences.
  9.Writing and Editing Skills: to write and edit news releases and promotional materials.

  KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
  1.Knowledge of the overall goals and intent of Greenpeace (including organizational structure, policies, guidelines, campaign activities): to lead and promote Toxics campaign program delivery in support of Greenpeace’s activities to support environmental protection principles.
  2.Knowledge of Toxics issues and environmental issues and the politics influencing public and private institutions both nationally and internationally: to understand how they interact and influence each other, and the public.
  3.Knowledge of campaigning techniques, policies, strategies, scope, target audience, structure and impact: to provide leadership for the planning and development of all Greenpeace China campaigns; to effectively place a campaign on the national (international) agenda; to use the media to maximize program exposure and gain public support; to anticipate and counteract negative backlash campaigns; to identify the tactics and counter campaigns used by various groups to undermine the credibility of Greenpeace, and to develop strategies for response.
  4.Knowledge of large scale campaign functions, policies, responsibilities, equipment, techniques, and tactics: to train, direct and motivate staff engaged in large scale campaign activities.
  5.Knowledge of financial management, budget preparation and control: to prepare, monitor and control program budget; to provide input into long term financial and strategic planning.

  DECISION MAKING REQUIREMENTS
  The position works under the general direction of the Campaigns Director, and assumes responsibility for all Greenpeace Toxics campaign work in China. The position demonstrates considerable independence and initiative with respect to decision-making, and provides leadership for the planning, development and implementation of Toxics campaign strategies, plans, and procedures. The position provides leadership to the Toxics campaign team and participates on the larger campaign team, recommends new areas for Greenpeace involvement and provides input into overall Greenpeace China policy through the Campaigns Director. Judgement is exercised in directing staff. Decisions made by the position significantly impact the overall success of Greenpeace China’s national campaign programs. Judgement and initiative are required in leading program activities that are largely self-directed. Discretion is exercised in handling confidential and sensitive information.

  SUPERVISORY AND FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  1.The position exercises direct staff supervisory responsibility over 3 positions.
  2.The position provides direction and guidance to external consultants and temporary staff, as required.
  3.The position prepares monitors and controls Toxics campaign program expenses and budget.
  4.The position has the authority to approve invoices and expenditures to a limit. Please consult with Operation Controller for the amount of approval.

  WORKING CONDITIONS
  1.The position works in a standard office environment, and is frequently required to travel to other Greenpeace offices, campaign locations, or locations where environmental crisis situations require the presence of Greenpeace representatives.
