GLOBAL CHANGEMAKERS PROJECT The Guildford Forum, London, January 2009

英国文化协会(在中国作为英国使/领馆文化教育处开展工作)将于2009年1月组织60名来自世界各地的年轻人前往伦敦参加“全球青年峰会”。他们将齐聚伦敦,在瑞士达沃斯“世界经济论坛”年会开幕前一周,就若干具有全球性的热点问题展开讨论。英国文化协会将资助两名优秀的中国青年参与这一全球性的讨论。
The British Council is bringing together 60 young people in London from around the globe to discuss key issues of global significance in the run up to the Annual World Economic Forum meeting in DAVOS. This is an opportunity for two outstanding young Chinese to contribute to a global debate.

Dates
The Guildford Forum begins on the morning of Monday 19 January 2009, and ends after breakfast on Saturday 23 January 2009. Participants will be expected to arrive at the venue on Sunday 18 January, and should aim to leave after breakfast on Saturday 24 January. A small number of rooms will be available for participants arriving on long-haul flights on Saturday 17 January.
Those chosen to be at Davos will be expected to remain in London at the end of the Forum. They will travel to Switzerland on Tuesday 27 January and leave there on Sunday 1 February 2009.
It is therefore critically important that all those shortlisted for the project are available to be in England and Switzerland from Sunday 18 January to Sunday 1 February 2009.
Please could you return your initial electronic expression of interest by the 5pm 6th October 2008. In the first instance we would need your application to be accompanied by
a) Details of your English fluency and experience, including any examinations taken and grades e.g. CET, IELTS, TOEFL.
b) A completed electronic copy of the application form below
c) Details of two people we would be able to contact for references and verification
The Guidelines below are a full list of the selection criteria.
Candidates should
· Be aged 16 – 19 (cut-off point 31/12/2008)
· Be active in their communities and show evidence of strong networking capability
· Have an outgoing personality, be confident and assertive, able to stand up in front of their peers, senior and older people and state their viewsopenly and honestly
· Be prepared to be controversial, to ask difficult questions (sensibly and sensitively), and to deal with conflict and conflicting views
· Be ready to contribute and to challenge, and have experience of discussion on serious issues
· Have good communication skills and be reasonably fluent in English. [All plenary and group sessions at Guildford will be in English.]
· Be ready to continue to commit to developing and working on Community Action Programmes of various kinds with the British Council and partnerorganisations after the event
· Not have participated in previous British Council projects.
We are looking for people who want the world’s leaders to be accountable to, and supportive of, them personally.
