Final Call for Applications - “Climate Change and Its Impacts on Mountain En

Who Should Apply?

We invite interested applicants who have an interdisciplinary interest in climate change in the context of its impacts on highland environments to apply for the 2011 Winter School:  “Climate Change and Its Impacts on Highland Environments”. Based on past experiences of an overwhelming response of applications, enrolment space is limited for this year’s academy; 100 spots will be filled with a maximum of 30% of the available places being reserved for participants coming from Institutions that have formal agreements with University of Colorado. All applicants will undergo a selection process conducted by the organizing committee.Applications are required to be submitted via email to kelli.lopez@colorado.eduno later than January 7, 2011.

Purpose

The Winter School is designed to provide participants with international instruction by well-known experts on climate change/impact issues.  Participants will receive world-class experience by listening lectures, interacting with world class scientists and educators, visiting local research facilities (climate, weather, wildlife, snow-ice data center, alternative energy), museums, and water and wildlife management centers.

Learning Objectives

* Instruction by international well-known experts on climate change/impact issues.

* Field Trips to world-class research facilities (climate, weather, wildlife, snow-ice data center).

* Firsthand experience on how to deal with climate impact through interdisciplinary thoughts and methodology.

Requirements for Applicants

* Each participant must submit a 1-page essay regarding his/her interest in climate and research.

* Each participant must submit a brief CV/resume.

* Each participant must complete and submit the application form.

Tuition

The tuition fee for the full course is $1,600 USD.  This includes: participation in all lessons, reference materials, tutorship, transportation to field trips, access to the School’s library and computer labs. Depending on available funding, a limited number of scholarships for developing countries will be made available towards meeting the tuition fee, or travelling and/or full board expenses.

Upon request, the organizers can provide participants with a package (based on an individual need) including international and domestic travel, local transportation, lodging, field trip entry fees, meals, visa fees, and health insurance.

The selection process entails an assessment of the applicants’ qualifications, based on criteria indicated in the Course Call for applications.
