JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE (ENGLISH): Assistant to Executive Director
POSITION TITLE (CHINESE): 總幹事助理
DEPARTMENT: Executive Director’s Office
LOCATION: Beijing
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To provide support, proactive coordination and communication of work to the Executive Director to lead and manage the organization to deliver the objectives.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Senior Management Team
To support the Executive Director by preparing and facilitating the meetings of the senior management team. As directed and delegated by the Executive Director, to ensure timely strategic decisions are made and regular communication is maintained to the wider organization in general, and to conduct agenda setting, material preparing and minutes taking in particular for the SMT meeting.
2.Organizational Development
To provide support to the Executive Director in producing and monitoring Greenpeace East Asia’s yearly organizational development plan (ODP), and other long-term plans, in line with the strategic development of the global organization, to enable consistent and timely submission of such plans.
3.Governance
To support the Executive Director to report and communicate with the Board of Directors, in co-operation with the Executive Director and Board Chair.
4.Executive Director support
To enable the Executive Director to work efficiently and effectively by managing all matters relating to organizing the Executive Director's agenda, logistical needs and obligations according to good business practice.
5.Meetings
Co-ordinate and assist with all aspects of meetings (including skillshares and training) as directed by the Executive Director, in co-operation with other relevant staff when appropriate and within budgetary constraints, to enable efficient and effective meetings to take place.
6.Communication and reporting
To proactively keep informed about developments within Greenpeace with respect to organizational development; Co-ordinate, produce and distribute briefing notes, background papers and/or internal and external reports, as directed by the Executive Director, in order to ensure relevant materials and information are available on a timely basis.
7.Projects
Manage or contribute to projects and provide specific advice or briefs as at the request of the Executive Director and in line with organizational aims and objectives.
REQUIREMENTS:
1.University graduate
2.Minimum of 3 years experience with providing support at a senior level
3.Minimum of 1 year experience working at a governance level
4.Coordination, logistics, and time management skills or experience
5.Facilitation skills or experience preferable
6.Understanding of organizational systems and development preferable
7.Human Resources and company secretary experiences preferable
8.Good interpersonal communication skills
9.Computer skill
10.Fluency in written and spoken English
11.Fluency in written and spoken Cantonese and Mandarin preferable

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Campaigner will provide specialized campaign expertise in Greenpeace’s ongoing or emerging campaign works as designated by the Campaign Manager or his/her designate. Through participation on Greenpeace East Asia and Greenpeace International Campaign Team(s) the Campaigner is directly involved in the development and implementation of campaign strategies, proposals and policy to effectively change key companies including supermarkets policy to advance campaign goals. The Campaigner will also work with external coalition partners to advance Greenpeace’s campaign goals.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Provides campaign expertise with respect to a specialized campaign area. Keeps abreast of issues. Conducts effective talks with companies and supermarket to advance Greenpeace campaign goals. Conducts research, investigations and leads or participates in field trips to rural areas.
2.Works with teammates to develop and implement effective campaign plans and strategies to draw attention to ecological abuse (e.g. through non-violent direct confrontations, spectacular actions, lobbying, various outreach events).
3.Maintains an active liaison with potential and established allied groups and coalition partners, key companies, supermarkets and their associations. Actively seeks out and participates in discussions with influential individuals and groups. Communicates with national/ provincial/ local officials related to environment policies and issues.
4.Researches and analyzes a wide range of specialized material on campaign issues and strategies. Is required to do media work.
5.Promotes support within Greenpeace to advance campaign goals. Works with other teammates and organizes rallies, protests, demonstrations, actions, community activities and other public events. Makes presentations and responds to public speaking requests. Initiates requests with strategically targeted groups.
6.Responds to public inquiries about campaign issues and other matters. Prepares materials and publications. Attends and/or organizes conferences.
7.Other duties as assigned by the Campaign Manager.
REQUIREMENTS:
SKILLS

4.Research, Investigation and Analytical Skills: to evaluate information, plan strategies and anticipate ramifications.
5.Tact and Enthusiasm: to function effectively within a highly charged atmosphere, under public scrutiny.
6.Computer Skills: to utilize word-processing and telecommunications capabilities; to develop written materials on campaign issues and strategies.
7.Language skill, fluent (oral and written communication):
Beijing based fluent in Putonghua and English, Cantonese of advantage
KNOWLEDGE
1.Knowledge of the overall goals and intent of Greenpeace (including policies, guidelines, programs, campaigns and project activities): to lead campaign activities in support of the world's largest environmental protection group.
2.Knowledge of environment/ecology issues in general: to provide specialized campaign expertise on agriculture, agrochemicals, genetic engineering; to promote ecological agriculture and a precautionary approach and long-term viability and biodiversity of ecosystems in China and Internationally.
3.Familiarity with Mainland China political, structural and governance context.
4.Knowledge of the media including responsibilities, equipment, techniques, policies, practices, scope, audience, tactics, structure, impact: to use the media to further campaign objectives; to increase awareness and gain public support; to communicate with relevant industry and government.
5.Knowledge of campaign techniques, strategies and practices: to provide key leadership and assume the role of campaign specialist with respect to a critical area of ecological concern.
