JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE (ENGLISH): Web Campaigner

DEPARTMENT: Communications

LOCATION: Beijing

DEADLINE: December 1, 2011

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Web Campaigner is responsible for building the web presence of Greenpeace in China through creating web content, web marketing, cooperation with external websites, recruiting and engaging online members, cultivating active online community, in order to help Greenpeace achieve its organizational and campaign objectives.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Create professional, engaging and creative content (text and visual) for websites and other online communications channels to communicate Greenpeace’s mission, vision and campaigns.

2. Assist in the development of a professional and user-friendly Greenpeace China website and online communications tools (e.g. e-newsletter) in accordance with the organizational branding strategy and best-practices in the web industry.

3. Offer strategic advice and execute plans on how to use the Greenpeace website, external websites and online channels and tools (e.g.e-newsletter, social media) to help achieve organizational and campaign objectives, with emphasis on building public support for the organization.

4. Develop and implement marketing plans to increase Greenpeace’s web presence in order to increase brand recognition of Greenpeace, inspire public to support Greenpeace and its campaigns; create qualitative and quantitative key performance indicators for web marketing plans.

5. Offer strategic advice, develop and implement plans to build active Greenpeace online community, which include recruitment of new online supporters, cultivate relationship with existing online supporters and engaging supporters in Greenpeace campaign and fundraising initiatives.

6. Manage online supporters and volunteers database, in accordance with the best segmentation and relationship building practices; empower and engage online volunteers to contribute to our online campaigns.

7. Work with agencies, designers and IT experts to produce online content, creative, tools and database for campaigning, fundraising and public engagement purposes.

8. Collect and analyze research information related to web trends, digital marketing and user experience etc, to ensure that Greenpeace China operates in parallel with on going developments within the digital industry in China and globally.

9. Liaise with web staff in Greenpeace International and other Greenpeace offices.

10. Perform other duties as assigned by the line manager.

A native web citizen who believes in and understands the power and possibilities of internet, and how the virtual world and real world interacts with each other. Stays on top of web trends. Possesses knowledge and experience in the use of different web tools for outreaching people.

2.Creative AND pragmatic.

Love changes, new challenges, ambitious and brave.Willingness to work in constantly changing, innovative environment, and to think out of the box. Use creative energy to generate pragmatic results and accomplish agreed objectives. Skills to use of internet as a source of benchmarking of ideas, skills to copy existing ideas and tools for relevant use for Greenpeace.

3.People person.

Believe that small number of people can make a big difference. Love interaction with people, whether online or offline. Possesses skills to help community members to outreach other people in digital world. Actively finding new and more effective ways to work together with other people using online tools.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

The following requirements (behaviors and characteristics) have been identified as key to success in the job. Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate these competencies.

1. Editorial Judgment - demonstrates judgment based on a thorough understanding of Greenpeace production guidelines, target audience, campaign and department objectives. Makes the right editorial decisions, taking account of conflicting views where necessary.

2. Creative Thinking - able to transform creative ideas into practical reality. Can look at existing situations and problems in novel ways and come up with creative solutions.

3. Planning and organization - able to think ahead in order to establish efficient and appropriate course of action for self and others. Prioritizes and plans activities taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines, staffing and resources.

4. Communication - able to get Greenpeace news and promotional messaging understood clearly by adopting a range of styles, tools and techniques appropriate to the audience and the nature of the information.

5. Managing relationships and team working - able to build and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally. Works co-operatively with others to be part of a team, as opposed to working separately or competitively.

6. Resilience - manages personal effectiveness by managing emotions in the face of pressure, set backs or when dealing with provocative situations. Demonstrates an approach to work that is characterized by commitment, motivation and energy.

7. Flexibility - adapts and works effectively with a variety of situations, individuals or groups. Able to understand and appreciate different and opposing perspectives on an issue, to adapt an approach as the requirements of a situation change, and to change or easily accept changes in one’s own organization or job requirements.

Qualifications

1. Proven track record of solid experience in web content management, digital marketing, and/or developing online communities.

2. Excellent Chinese writing skills.

3. Creative and strategic communications skills.

4. Knowledge of internet culture and close familiarity with the tools and landscape of the digital world.

5. Knowledge and experience of web design, HTML, CSS, Javascript, RSS, and other relevant web technologies.

6. Knowledge of web usability, web marketing and search engine optimization technologies.

7. Knowledge and experience in IT support field is preferable.

8. Fluency in written and spoken English.

9. Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and to meet tight deadlines, including a flexible mindset regarding working hours.
