Create short animated movie for the World Migratory Bird Day campaign

UNEP CONVENTION ON THE CONSERVATION OF MIGRATORY SPECIES

TASK

UNEP/CMS and AEWA are organizing World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) which will take place on 12 and 13 May 2012. This year’s theme is “Migratory birds and people – together through time”. A poster has already been designed to illustrate the theme and will be provided to organizers of related events around the world. We would like to enhance the campaign by producing a short (max. 2 min.) animation video clip which is based on the poster and which explains the theme of WMBD.

The online volunteer will have the support and guidance of a dedicated focal person at UNEP/CMS.
The online volunteer will be provided with the image files of the poster, text (for blending in), and a piece of music to be able to work with them. A rotating globe (Google Earth) should be part of the movie.
The movie should be ready by March 23.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) was initiated in 2006 and is an annual awareness-raising campaign highlighting the need for the protection of migratory birds and their habitats. On the second weekend each May, people around the world take action and organize public events such as bird festivals, education programmes and birdwatching excursions to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day. Every year, the campaign has a new global theme. The campaign’s website is http://www.worldmigratorybirdday.org.

OBJECTIVE

The short film will be used to promote the understanding of migratory birds and their relevance for humans. It will be a valuable information tool to raise awareness on the value of migratory birds for ecosystems, culture, and economy, and therefore for human well-being.
