Dear Kui Li,
I am Dorothy Joseph the Asian Desk Officer for Peace Child International.
I am from Bangalore, India and I am very motivated to work in the head
office as I have been working for 5years in the field office back home.
Peace Child International is a British registered charity that has ECOSOC
status with the United Nations. Our office is run by a team of young
international volunteers. Our mission is to empower young people to Be the
Change! They want to see in the world. We sponsor small scale youth led
development programmes and award grants twice a year.
Every three years we hold a World Youth Congress where we gather together
young activists who have been running projects in their community. We have
held these in Hawaii, Morocco and Scotland.
The next Congress will take place in the City of Quebec in Canada in August
2008 and we are now working on the recruitment and on the gathering of
different partner organisations all over the world.
The idea of the Congress is to gather together 600 young people and showcase
what young people are doing in the development field and to see how
governments and international development organisations can work in
collaboration with them to make poverty history in a sustainable way. Just
as we are looking for highly motivated young people, we are also seeking
support from governments, institutions, schools, Universities, NGOs and
media to support and encourage youth coming from their countries. We also
want these partners, especially the Government and the Institutional
Partners, to send a representative to the Congress to witness the
realisations of the youth idealists and to build on this partnership in
development.
At present we have very few contacts in China. Any help you can give us in
promoting this congress to potential partners and delegates in your country
would be much appreciated. We feel that this would help other young people
to discover more about your country. We are equally sure that any delegation
coming to the Congress will bring back an array of best practices in
development raise the profile of what youth can do to realise your
development goals.
What we are trying to do right now is to spread this information and to make
sure that those who are genuinely interested about it will get in touch with
us.
With this letter, I am enclosing some leaflets of this event that refers to
the website: www.wyc2008.qc.ca <http://www.wyc2008.qc.ca>. This website
already shows basic information about the event, the City of Quebec and
Youth Led Development, but it will constantly be updated to give more
information, and will include a section on partnership and the application
form for the delegates.
I am enclosing a copy of the World Youth Congress flyer. If you want me to
mail you flyers, I can of course do so, although e-mail is much quicker.
