Paid summer internship position (open immediately)
The Yale-China Association, a private, non-profit organization based
on the Yale Campus, is seeking a summer intern to work on its health
programs.
Yale-China Association Health Programs
Founded in 1901, the Yale-China Association helped to introduce
Western medicine to China at the beginning of the 20th century by
establishing a teaching hospital in Changsha that bears its name,
Xiang-Ya (Hunan-Yale) Hospital. The Xiang-Ya Medical College and
Nursing School were founded a few years later. The Xiangya School of
Medicine in now part of Central-South University in Changsha and
continues close collaboration with Yale-China.
Current health-related projects of the Yale-China Association focus
on nursing education, HIV/AIDS education and prevention, programs to
prevent the spread of blood-borne pathogens in the health care
setting, and fellowships for Chinese women working in public health.
Yale-China also publishes The Yale-China Health Journal, an annual
publication highlighting recent research related to health care and
health education in China.
Job Description
The intern will assist Yale-China's Program Officer for health
programs on several ongoing and developing programs. These include
helping to organize a Yale-China sponsored conference on mental
health issues in China that will take place in October in China,
conducting research for several new programs under development, and
assisting with the coordination of various health program
activities. The ideal candidate will start immediately and work
through the end of August. There is the possibility of part-time
work beyond the summer.
Qualifications
?Strong interest in public health issues in China (prior
experience in this area not required but would be preferred)
?Good interpersonal, intercultural, administrative, and
organizational skills
?Reading and oral fluency in Chinese (translation experience
preferred)
?Excellent English writing skills
?Demonstrated research ability
