转基因作物／转基因食品学习交流会（报名截至10/24）

　　随着转基因技术的快速发展，转基因玉米、转基因大豆和转基因棉花等转基因作物及其产品已走出实验室，并应用到生态环境和人类的生活中。然而，国际上对转基因作物的经济效益、生态影响和健康风险等相关问题一直存在着激烈的争论，支持与反对两种观点长期争执不下。这样的争论在中国也同样存在，但主要发生在学术界。"转基因作物/转基因食品学习交流会"旨在促进转基因技术、转基因作物和转基因食品等相关知识和信息的分享、学习、交流与讨论，进而提高公众对转基因技术、转基因作物和转基因食品的认知水平，促进公众的积极参与，改善我国的生物安全管理制度和政策，实现经济社会的可持续发展。　　主要议题：

　　参会人员大约40人，包括来自中国云南省内和云南省外相关机构的代表，同时也欢迎国际参会者。

　　费用说明：

　　云南思力生态替代技术中心（英文简称PEAC）的宗旨是传播和发展化学农药替代技术，消除化学农药污染，促进生态农业建设，保护人类健康和生态环境，确保社会经济可持续发展。PEAC采取的工作策略有：农民意识提升培训、消费者公众教育、妇女健康（保护）、化学农药替代技术的研究和推广、转Bt基因棉花的生态风险研究、转基因作物知识和信息的公众培训教育、政策发展等等。
　　昆明·云南简介：
　　昆明是云南省的省会，是云南省政治、经济、文化、科技、交通中心。全市面积约2.1万平方公里，海拔高度746～4247.7米，地理位置属北纬亚热带，然而昆明气候温和，夏无酷暑，冬无严寒，城区温度在0~29摄氏度之间，全年温差较小，素以"春城"而享誉中外。悠久的历史、独特的地质，使昆明拥有众多的文物古迹和风景名胜，成为我国著名的历史文化名城和优秀旅游城市。

　　Workshop for Genetically Engineered Crops/Food Issues

　　Introduction/Objective:
　　With the fast development of Genetically Engineering Technology, Genetically Engineered (GE) crops and its products, including GM maize, GM soybean and GM cotton and so on, are not only produced in laboratory, but also released in ecological environment and applied in the people's lives. However, a battle royal of GM crops and GM food, which involves in the economic benefit, ecological impact, and health risk and so on, is always progressed internationally. There is warfare between the opponents about GM crops and supporters. Such argument is also popular in China, but it only happens in the academic field. \"Workshop for Genetically Engineered Crops/Food Issues\" aims to promote the sharing, learning, communicating and discussing about the knowledge and related information of Genetically Engineering Technology, GM crop and food and so on, to advance the awareness of the public, to promote the active participation of the public, to improve the safety regulation and policy of China, to receive sustainable social and economic development in China.

　　Pesticide Eco-Alternatives Center Yunnan China (PEAC) is a non-government organization (NGO), which was created with a long-term mission of promoting alternative ecological forms of pest control, reducing the use of chemical pesticides in agricultural, urban and natural ecosystems in China and of protecting human health and the environment for sustainable development. PEAC strives to expand the network with farmers, consumers, environmental activists and policy makers and work together to eliminate the risks of chemical pesticides on health and the environment and to promote the health of environment and human being. PEAC focuses on community-based Transgenic Bt cotton and pesticide risk monitoring, the public education of GE crops/food and pesticide risks to health and environment, PEAC's institutional capacity building and network empowerment, participatory development and extension of alternatives to chemical pest control and so on.
　　Brief Introduction of Kunming & Yunnan
　　Kunming is the capital city of Yunnan Province in China, which is also the political, economic, cultural, science and technology and transportation center of Yunnan. It is around 21 thousand square kilometers in area. Its altitude is between 746 - 4247.7 meters. About Climate, Kunming is marked by a pleasant spring weather which prevails year round while it is also notable for the abrupt change into winter weather caused by rain. The winter is from November to January. But the daily difference is much bigger; being cool in the morning and evening, but hot at noon, especially in spring and winter, about 12℃ - 20℃. The temperature gets even lower in rainy days. Kunming is well known for its long history, numerous cultural relics and various place of interest and becomes a good tourist city.
　　Yunnan province lies in the southwest of China. It is more than 380 thousand square kilometers in area. Its attitude is between 76.4 - 6740 meters. Its topography is complicated. The eastern part is Yunnan highland with many famous beauty spots, including Yunnan Stone Forest, Luoping Duoyihe and Qiubei Puzhihei and so on. In the eastern part, three Parallel Rivers of the Jinsha, Lancang and Nujiang rivers are with great pomp. Nine famous plateau lakes are of importance for the economic development of Yunnan. Yunnan is a huge of geological museum and many unearthed cultural relics are exhibited. Yunnan Province, home to more than 51 minorities, has the greatest diversity of ethnic groups in China such as Yi, Bei, and Hani minorities and so on. The diversity of geologic and ethical leads Yunnan to become the richest area of biodiversity in China. It has the reputation of \"Vegetable Kingdom\", \"Animal Kingdom\" and \"Medicine Village\". At present, there are 17000 species of higher plants, 1737 species of vertebrates, 296 species of mammals, 796 species of birds, 102 species of amphibians, 151 species of reptiles and 399 species of fresh water fishes to be known in Yunnan. In addition, there are many characteristic species such as Dian golden monkey, green peacock, raccoon and oil palm and so on. Yunnan is one of biodiversity hotspots in the world. It is also the natural gene pool of organisms. So, Yunnan is a very valuable place for studying and traveling.
