Introduction
-------------------------------------------------------------
The Asia Pacific Leadership Program (APLP) is the center of excellence for leadership education in the Asia Pacific region. The program links advanced and interdisciplinary analysis of emergent regional issues with experiential leadership learning.
We aim to nurture individual actualization within the context of community growth. This balance is a core challenge and fulcrum of the program. The APLP embraces multiple forms of learning including: peer-to-peer, team activities, lectures, workshops, discussion seminars, field studies, field exercises and personal reflection.
The APLP is premised on the idea that diversity can build strength, insight, creativity and innovation, as participants move out of “comfort zones.” Diversity is found in the participants, learning approaches and topics addressed. However, the diversity which characterizes the program is not an end in itself, but a stepping stone to success.
We seek to synchronize the various components of the program towards collective achievement and concrete outcomes. The final measurement of success is based on what is achieved individually and collectively by the year’s end and onwards. Outcomes matter.
We are currently launching our intake for the Asia Pacific Leadership Program (APLP) class to start in August 2011. If you can think of any suitable candidates for the program please forward them our web address at http://www.eastwestcenter.org/aplp or they can contact Scott MacLeod directly at macleods@aplp.eastwestcenter.org.
The basic requirements are strong English language skills and at least an under-graduate degree (most have at least a Masters). The age range of the group is usually from mid-20s to mid-40s, with the average being 32. Each class has members from between 15-20 countries and a very wide range of backgrounds. The program aims to help them answer three questions: 1) What's going on? (we examine emerging global issues within an Asia Pacific context); What forms of leadership are required? (as we feel leadership styles are situational); and how they 'fit'? (how they can lead and navigate change).
Substantial funding is available and the deadline for applications is December 1, 2010. |
