国外团队总结之九:美国南卡罗来纳大学Green Quad队

报告:
我们三国·智南卡罗来纳大学队除了得到Jason Craig的支持外,还得到了整支Green Quad可持续未来学习中心学生团队的热情参与,其中包括各学生组织,如SAGE、本科生研究生影响力组织、GSWG全球可持续发展工作组、社区服务协会、工科学生等;也包括教职员工及社会团体的参与,如卡罗莱纳餐饮、健康卡罗莱纳、南卡罗来纳大学车队、园林绿化组、南卡罗来纳大学住宿部,以及保持中部地区美化组织、塞拉俱乐部、江森自控、索诺科回收等等。
GreenQuad学生团队依据可持续发展跟踪评估和评级系统(即STARS,具体参见www.stars.aashe.org)开展各个项目;此系统同时也是校园环保政策的核心。学生积极参与,通过各类目标不同的项目推动环保政策的实施。
我们的项目主要有三类:第一类旨在推动校园资源整合,宣传生态思维;第二类将推动校园的转变;第三类针对校园资源的可持续管理的改善。每个相应的项目小队都由学生领导,组员包括社会人士、本校学生和本校教职员工等(参见www.greenquadcommunity.org);这些小队一起组成了三国·智南卡罗来纳大学队,核心组员达30名。
环境咨询委员会(EAC)每年都在Green Quad召开会议,总结STARTS过去的工作及研究日后的政策。以上提到的学生小队及学院各部门都会参加这个会议。
201091日至1112日为止,三国·智南卡罗来纳大学队完成了三国·智项目列表中的72个项目,预计积分可达1000点;另有10个属其他类的项目预计积分150点。
南卡罗来纳大学整年都有各类丰富多彩的活动,尤其是这个学期在队员的精心策划下更是增加了很多新活动。我们在校内外举办跟南卡罗来纳大学环境与可持续性相关的多种活动,吸引了超过五六十位学生参加。
身为南卡罗来纳大学的学生,我们的组织以及学生跟社会及学校的互动都令我们感到非常骄傲。我们进行广泛的合作,开展了各种活动,包括后挡板回收活动(跟学校住宿部、学校回收办公室及当地的索诺科回收办公室等合作),学生寝室节能竞赛(跟江森自控及学校住宿部合作)以及运输领域的研究(帮助学校车队实施STARS的相关举措),等等。在教育方面,我们也举办了不少活动,比如通过Skype与外国环境专家会议开会(通过GSWG电话会议跟西班牙和德国的专家联系);通过跟学校行政人员和学生的讨论,学校决定引入新的跟可持续性相关的课程。除此之外,我们还进行了一系列旨在扩大影响力的活动,如920日的秋分日活动、SSREC会议(十月在亚特兰召开)、1023日的无家之夜(关于无家可归感)、亮点地球问题首脑会议活动(1122日)、10/10/10罗基布兰奇河清理、植树活动(整个学期)、201010月里每周二在罗素楼外举办的农夫市场试吃活动、可持续性周(1018日到22日)、面对全球可持续发展1117日)、免费循环(1118日)、参观学校能源设施和当地回收设施以及克莱姆森大学和本校间的回收竞争),等等。以上所列举的只是我们队自20109月起开展的83个项目中的一小部分。

Report: We arethe Great Power Race team at the USC supported by Jason Craig, and the entirestudent team at the Green Quad Learning Center for Sustainable Futures here onour campus, which involves student organizations (SAGE, Net Impact Grad andUndergrad chapter, GSWG-Global Sustainability Working Group, Community Service,Engineering students, etc), faculty and staff (such as Carolina Dining, HealthyCarolina, USC transportation team, Landscaping group, USC Housing, etc) andCommunity (such as Keep the Midlands Beautiful, Sierra Club, Johnson Controls,Sonoco Recycling, etc.)

Allthe projects that are undertaken by the Green Quad student teams follow theguidelines given in the STARS (Sustainability Tracking Assessment and RatingSystem (www.stars.aashe.org) which is the basis for the campus Green Policy.Students are actively involved in the implementation of the green policiesthrough various project teams which are designated for specific functions.

Projectsare divided into 3 main categories – CAMPAIGN 1 (Promote Campus-WideIntegrative, Ecological Thinking) CAMPAIGN 2 (Build Campus Capacity forTransformation) & CAMPAIGN 3 (Promote Sustainable Management of CampusResources). Each Project team under these respective campaigns has studentorganizers and team members, who are from the community, students from theschool, USC administrators, staff and faculty. (www.greenquadcommunity.org).These are the GPR campus organizing team – about 30 members in all.

Everyyear the Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) gathers the above mentionedstudent teams as well as various other campus departments in a meeting at theGreen Quad to discuss future policies and review past actions related to theSTARS.

BetweenSept 1st - Nov 12th, 2010 – The USC GPR team completed 72 projects from GPRproject list for an expected total of 1000 points, and 10 projects in the Othercategory for an expected 150 points.

Universityof South Carolina held plenty of activities all year round, and many new eventswere introduced during this semester by enterprising students in the studentteams. We had more than 50-60 students participating in various events held oncampus and outside which were related to environment and sustainability at USC.

AtUSC, we pride ourselves for our organization and the way in which the studentsinteract with various members of community and school for different events suchas Tailgate Recycling (worked with USC Housing, USC Recycling office and localrecycling office Sonoco), Campus Dormitory competition to reduce energy use(worked with Johnson Controls & USC Housing) & research in the field oftransportation where students are working with the Campus Transportation teamto help them with STARS implementation. In the field of Education, we haveseveral initiatives such as Skype conferencing with environment experts fromforeign countries (GSWG conference calls – SPAIN and GERMANY) as well asintroduction of new sustainability curriculum by faculty after discussing withstudents and administrators. We also have great outreach initiatives such asFall Equinox (Sept 20th), SSREC Conference (Atlanta Oct), Night without a home(homelessness awareness – Oct 23) Highlights ~ Earth Summit (Nov 22nd),10/10/10 Rocky Branch Creek Clean up, Outdoor Recreation Carbon Neutral TreePlantings (Throughout the semester), Farmers Market taste-testing outsideRussell House every Tuesday (Oct 2010), Sustainability Week (Oct 18-22nd),Putting a Face on Global Sustainability (Nov 17th), Freecycling (Nov 18th),Tours (campus energy facilities and local Recycling facility) &Recyclemania (recycling competition between Clemson University and USC) areonly a sample of the 83 projects that our team undertook during Sept to Nov2010.
